Thanks everyone for your ideas! My husband and I both have jobs in the area (no commute) and have been planning this move from Orange County for a while. First we got local jobs that we knew we could keep – he works for the sherrif’s department. Now that we are here and renting month to month it is so hard to keep waiting since the prices are so much lower those in south Orange County! We have the opposite situation as some of you mildly sexist posters: he is anxious to buy and I am holding him at bay!
I brought up this house because with money down and a nice 30 year fixed I figured I wuold pay about 1600 a month, including HOA, principal and interest. That is pretty equivalent to rents in the area. Of course I would rather buy new so thanks Temeculaguy for the great advice about DR Horton. I would love to buy this winter but don’t want to get in too soon. What are other Temecula-ites planning regarding timelines?
PS. Does the barber do kids haircuts? π

How old is a “kid” these days ?
I spoke with a 90 year old once whose 70 year old kid lived with him…Don’t know if he has an age minimum π

If you do go to bob’s, go about ten, that way he’s had a chance to get going and it’s not too close to nap time.
Tuba, thanks for the insight, you have a perspective we rarely get, stay onboard.
Bugs, the 30 day plan is book worthy, excellent idea, I’m going with it.
5yes, back to your questions and sorry for the mildly sexist comments of the past, Mea Culpa moment. In the past I have posted my preliminary research into the relationship between estrogen and model homes but it was mostly in good fun. D.R. Horton is also marketing to cops/fire/teachers, giving them 5 or 10k in additional incentives and allowing $500 deposits from them. I don’t think it is their civic pride, they just figure those are the people who don’t state their income and can still get loans but you may find many of your co-workers end up as your neighbors. I’ve never met a woman who couldn’t control her man so you should be fine in keeping him in line for a little longer (oops another sexist comment), D.R. horton is lining up all the fireworks and they are about to light a match, so go with the bugs plan. Even if you don’t buy there it will still have a huge impact on the zip code. Where is that repo anyway? From the size and price it sounds like Vail, Paloma or the West side of Pechanga parkway, I know the specific area as well as anyone here and can give some you some specific advice if you don’t mind elaborating. I’d give you my e-mail but I have stalkers, well hopefully I still do.

August 26, 2007 at 2:46 PM #81381Allan from FallbrookParticipanttemeculaguy: Swing Inn has really good breakfasts. That’s absolutely apropos of nothing, but Bob’s is behind there and…
Syes: I would make a point of visiting the various REO websites and staying abreast of both inventory and prices in the Temecula and Murrieta areas. I have seen some nice homes that have gone back to the bank, and, at some point, reality is going to sink in for the banks and lending institutions that they have to divest themselves of these properties. All due respect to D.R. Horton, but I think the “squeal” factor is going to be a lot higher for Countrywide Financial, Wells Fargo, etc.
When you look at Wells Fargo’s Premiere Asset Services website (their REO website), California foreclosures alone eat up 182 pages at 10 properties per page. I stopped counting at 300 pages on Countrywide’s REO website. There are deals out there, be patient and watchful.

August 26, 2007 at 6:29 PM #812995yesParticipantYesterday’s good deal seems to be today’s norm here in Temecula. TGuy – the house is in Paloma and there are two more today in that price range. Now I know that the good deals will be much lower. It just seems crazy to me that the price to buy could go below the price to rent! By the way, your posts are funny and truthful and I do not get offended easily so bring on the sexism.
I would love to buy a house just south of the 79 in the Redhawk area for about $280 and get about 1800 square feet. Do you think this is a dream worth holding out for? I appreciate the wisdom of a local in learning about areas. A lot of my fellow teachers live in Paloma – no one lives north of Rancho Cal. The house we are renting off of Rancho Cal and Margarita just got a NOD so will be moving soon. The DR Horton development is nice but has tiny lots, which is the only drawback we see.
Thank you to everyone for the advice – Bugs, I think the 30 day idea is an excellent one. I will try my best to follow it, though as others have posted on other threads, this blog and the unwinding of the housing market is addictive!
