I’m a coastal girl but I really like parts of Valley Center especially if you are looking for more space and peace. I don’t live there so I can’t provide the inside scoop. But it seems like you can get to all of those needs you listed even if you have to drive a little more. To me, it’s a trade off. I’d live somewhere more rural with more land and more peace and the trade off is yes, maybe you have to drive a little longer to go shopping. So you plan better and go less often…big deal. As far as the summer heat, well, I guess it’s a personal preference but come on, the weather is pretty great in Valley Center compared to most of the country. I’d take a zillion inland places in CA and that type of summer heat vs. back East summers any day. Most of the year is fantastic. And even in the summer, I’m sure the majority of the days are perfectly comfortable in the shade. People are too quick to turn on the AC or heat today.

August 5, 2009 at 11:44 AM #441043svelteParticipantValley Center is home to a few celebs also.
Bill Murray owns a home in VC.
JJ Cale, who wrote Clapton’s “After Midnight” and “Cocaine” as well as Lynyrd Skynrd’s “Call Me The Breeze”, lives there on his 3 acre spread with his musician wife Christine Lakeland. Clapton actually spent the summer with him there in 2006, writing songs. Clapton enjoyed his trips to town so much he named his next album “Road to Escondido”.
And finally, Glen Bell (founder of Taco Bell) owns Bell Gardens, a 15 acre ranch at 30841 Cole Grade Road in Valley Center which is open to the public. No word on whether the Taco Bell chihuahua (who recently died) lives there with him.

August 5, 2009 at 12:11 PM #441048CBadParticipantBell Gardens was fantastic but it has been closed for years as far as I know?? Also, no way it is/was 15 acres! I don’t know the stats but it was much, much bigger than that. Maybe 115 acres but not 15. I loved taking my kids there.
