    I’m thinking of putting in a water softener. I’ve been weighing the pros and cons and still can’t decide. How many out there have one? Would you replace it if it broke or just bypass it? I know they cost a little to maintain and waste a little water, is it worth it in the long run though.

    My house used to have one, when I bought it, it was in bad shape,
    so I removed it. Used the money i would be spending to buy a tankless
    water heater.

    I don’t see a lot of value in them, i’d rather have filters to absorb
    stuff out of the water, or get a heat exchanger to recover
    heat from the shower.

    even better put the money into a solar hot water heater.
