February 1, 2011 at 9:11 AM #660545ArrayaParticipant
seems like people in general feel more offended by inhuman treatment toward animals, even rats, than they do human beings. Not judging, just interesting…
Immanuel Kant called absolute moral imperatives that are used to carry out immoral acts “a radical evil.” He wrote that this kind of evil was always a form of unadulterated self-love. It is the worst type of self-deception.

February 1, 2011 at 9:12 AM #660550AnonymousGuest
I can’t believe I’m going to say this because I’m usually anti-hippie to the core. However, I think glue traps are cruel and inhumane. Torturing animals — even rats — is like training wheels for a serial killer.
That said, I am totally down with dispatching rats with extreme prejudice.
You are spot on.
I do not see the purpose of torturing any animal you trap. If an animal has to be killed, it should be done humanely and painlessly as possible. This torture talk really is going outside the realm of pest control here – in fact it has nothing to do with pest control at all. Yet this is the excuse people will use, apparently – no, that is not really a reason to torture animals to death because the actual intention to torture something comes from a sick, troubled mind… not because of the practicality of removing pest animals.
I am sure most pest control operators or people dealing with pest animals don’t go with the intention to torture something, they just want the problem gone. But to wilfully cause gratuitous cruelty because someone wants to torture something… well… that’s a different ball-park altogether. Let me tell you, if I caught someone torturing a rat to death in front of me, I would probably need to be physically restrained to avoid beating them up.
There is something *very* intrinsically wrong about causing something helpless to suffer just because someone *wants* to inflict more pain. It’s unnecessary, wrong, and probably even criminal. Glue traps are a good example – what do people do often? Throw them away into the bin so they further mutilate themselves/stave to death. What great human beings those type are. Yes, I’m going to go all hippy here – no animals deserves to be slowly tortured to death simply for being what it is. Perhaps the guy who said he was “anti cruelty yet makes an exception to rats” should take heed in this and grow the f up.
