[quote=paddyoh]Well thanks flu.
We can always count on you and Allan to spend all that time researching why American-Made cars suck.
Anything else you’d like to add about why American Made products are so terrible ?
While yer researching, what say you do a U-turn and ask Jeff Bridges to put the brakes on promoting the WalMart car known as Hyundai ?
Thanks for your support.

Paddy: Puh-leeze. I don’t think American-made cars suck, I DRIVE ONE. I also make a conscious effort to Buy American whenever and wherever possible. You, however, insist that I’m un-American (see your post above where you say EXACTLY that).
And, you are a Trotskyite, given your insistence that we bow to union pressure and follow an autocratic, authoritarian dictate to insist on union workers receiving a wage that they are not entitled to (hence my comments). Now THAT is un-American.
I’d ask you to get your facts straight, Patty O’Furniture, but you can’t and won’t, because you’re incapable of mustering anything but a straight, pro-union-at-all-costs approach to everything.
Hell, given your hatred of America and freedom, you might be in al-Qaeda! I’m keeping the terrorists from winning!
December 30, 2011 at 2:15 PM #735212paddyohParticipantLOL.
Thank you Allan…….
I can always count on you to make my case for me. ;>]
I think it’s time to re-enact your “Smooch Hiney Act of 1930” or whatever that pet peeve of yours was – maybe they’ll get it right this time.
I defy you to copy and paste from my “post from above” where I called ANYONE here “un-American” or made any mention of “pro-union”.
Yet you continue with the childish name-calling: “Trotskyite” “al-Qaeda” “terrorists” blah, blah blahski.
So. Please. Put your hands in ice water, take a deep breath and another Klonopin.
Then do something positive and click here to ask Jeff Bridges to scotch (have another one a those too Allan) the Hyundai ads.
I would also like to take this time to thank Jeff Bridges for what he has done for trying to abolish world hunger.
Thank you all for your support.

And WHAT the heck is THAT nonsense supposed to mean ?
You’re admitting to helping terrorists now ?
Over an anti-Jeff Bridges Hyundai ad ?
You ARE drinking heavily again Allan – aren’t you ?

Paddy: Ah, yer a stitch! The boys down at O’Hooligans must love you, ya kidder.
But, joking aside, I’d like to simplify my position, so that you can follow it.
Pro-American = Freedom of Choice, meaning that Jeff Bridges can represent whatever damn car company he likes and God bless him for exercising this right. He also has a Right to Work and to do so without intimidation, coercion or having to do so in a union mandated environment.
Anti- and un-American = No Freedom of Choice, such as Card Check or NLRB versus Boeing or being forced to use union labor in certain contracts (such as when doing commercial construction work in LA, Chicago or NYC).
Once proud US companies like GM and US Steel were destroyed, competitively-speaking, due to insane labor contracts with UAW and AFL-CIO. These contracts were so skewed that GM became known as a “healthcare company that just so happens to build cars”.
Once someone like you begins “asking” that Jeff Bridges stops exercising his right of free speech and his RIGHT TO WORK wherever and whenever he damn well pleases, well, I know what it means when a pro-union thug “asks” for something.
December 31, 2011 at 8:38 AM #735261paddyohParticipantGlad to see you calmed down Allan. No need to blow a gasket over a little Hyundai advertising.
You remind me of the Walter Sobchak character in the Big Lebowski movie that starred Jeff Bridges.
No matter what the topic of conversation, Walter’s observation would always devolve to something about his time in Viet Nam.
When Walter spreads bowling partner Donny’s ashes into the sea his tribute speech ends up, as always, with another diatribe about Viet Nam.
This prompts Jeff Bridge’s character, The Dude, to respond: “God Damn you Walter! You f****n asshole ! Everything’s a f****n’ travesty with you, man! And what was all that sh*t about Vietnam? What the F**K, has anything got to do with Vietnam? What the f**k are you talking about?”
In your case, no matter what the subject, your response has nothing to do with the topic at hand but everything to do with your apparent hatred of unions.
If someone says the sky is blue or asks you how your dog is you are somehow going to parlay the conversation into another boring rant about the evils of the AFL-CIO or some other related blather.
Maybe you or a family member were somehow harmed by a “pro-union thug” during your childhood. Or maybe you are uber-rich and despise the thought of a blue-collar American worker making a living wage.
Whatever your problem with the average working stiff and their relationship with, or lack thereof, with a union, I really don’t care.
The only thing I know about unions is that without them Joe Bag O Donuts wouldn’t get the weekend off or get paid overtime for a 40-plus hour work-week. Or that child labor abuse might still be rampant.
But I digress.
I’m simply asking people to join me in graciously trying to persuade Jeff
Bridges to put the brakes on his Hyundai advertising campaign. No more. No less.
No hidden codes or secret “UAW” mumbo jumbo.
No pressure.
Which begs the question….
Why does everything have to be such a travesty with you Allan ?
Peace and Happy New Year.

December 31, 2011 at 8:54 AM #735263scaredyclassicParticipantWere you guys aware of the fairly large cult surrounding the big lebowski. Apparently many convene, dress up, watch the movie endlessly and basically have a wholecrelugion/ philosophy built around it.
You can google for info.
I’m unaware of any other movie like that.

Patty Cake: I have NO problem with the average working stiff whatsoever. That is not whom the union represents, and you and I both know that. We also know that you’re a former union guy and your assertion that without unions poor J6P wouldn’t get OT or weekends off is a laugher. Uh, maybe if we were still in the 1930s, yeah. But, given FLSA and OSHA and all of the other legislation and agencies responsible for fair working conditions and standards, no more.
So, what purpose do unions now serve? Well, again, I think we both know the answer, which explains YOUR vehement reaction to Right to Work states and any vehicles that are NOT American. I happen to drive American and always will, but I understand if someone else wants to choose something else. You, however, don’t seem to understand that and, moreover, would freely deprive them of that choice (as you’ve made clear previously).
Maybe your New Year’s resolution should be to leave Jeff Bridges alone (I know that you’re a pariah on his website) and find something else to obsess over.

December 31, 2011 at 4:25 PM #735280scaredyclassicParticipantI’ve gone 94 days without a drink as part of my weightlifting regimen but if I were to start drinking it would be white Russians or maybe black Russians.
Because the dude abideth.
Wheres my cardigan?
December 31, 2011 at 5:11 PM #735284paddyohParticipantWalter….uh…um….I mean Allan.
There ya go making my case for me again bro. :.]
I don’t know much about labor unions except the empirical stuff I mentioned.
Otherwise, it’s really not my area of expertise.
I will bow to your superior knowledge of “FLSA”… “BLOWME” …. “OSHA”…. “Right to Jerk Off” or any of those other fixations you have going on.
I’m just here to try and spread the word about the opportunity you have to respectfully ask Jeff Bridges to disconnect himself from the Hyundai advertising campaign.
Apologies for the sarcasm but there seems to be no other way to respond seriously to your nonsensical and inaccurate bloviations.
But why, why, WHY….does EVERYTHING have to be such a travesty with you Allan ?
Keep drivin’ American soldier.
Peace.
