I have a theory about that, actually. IMHO, female groupies are the equivalent of male stalkers. They become obsessed with a particular person (usually someone they don’t really know), and oftentimes imagine they have an acutal relationship of some sort with that person. At some point, they try to act out that relationship in real life.

With male stalkers, female victims react as though they’re being attacked (which they are). With female groupies, men will often go along with what the girls want to do — if they’re hot. Most men who have groupies also have a security detail, so they’re better able to keep the undesirable groupies away. Female victims of stalkers usually don’t have that same luxury, unfortunately.

Personally, I think female groupies can be just as dangerous as male stalkers, but are less likely to commit physical violence (though it definitely does occur from time to time). It certainly seems to be the case that there are more female groupies than male stalkers, though.

i like that theory. Groupie sounds a lot friendlier than “stalker”. What the groupie wants is the power and money of the mark; the stalker wants the womb. Men instinctively probably dont look to women as a source of power and money, so less male groupies? women probably instinctively don’t want any particular sperm so badly that they fall into the realm of stalkerdom. as women accrue more assets, maybe male groupies will evolve. Although it’s a hefty price to pay; i cannot picture myself aspiring to be a male groupie. however i wouldnt be averse to having married into some money…

wanting to sleep with many women is not deviant. not wanting to sleep with lots of women is deviant.

How about a boy or a man wearing an extremely popular players shirt and number? What is up with that? Far more often than not, the stalker isn’t interested in the celebrity/authority aspect of the mark. I’m guessing that out of all the stalkers out there – let’s assume they’re mostly men just for argument’s sake – that the vast majority focus their psychosis on “normal” folks they see in their everyday life, as opposed to celebrities.

So, I would agree that a male stalker of a female celebrity would definitely be analogous to a female groupie. But I suspect that the former is a very small number in comparison to the latter. Thus the analogy is a bit weak.
