I agree that things are changing…we have decided to relocate to the Philipinnes..we have visited every year for the last 15 years and our decision is not made lightly..our property is 3 acres of land with a natural spring fed fish pond and in an agricultural area..Tax per year… $7 dollars.
Not saying this is for everyone, however, IMO this is the way to live with what time we have left…
the area is sort of like Southern Calif..topography wise and the weather is always warm…the locals can speak or understand english quite well…we love it.March 30, 2010 at 9:12 AM #533324gtaylor5ParticipantI agree that things are changing…we have decided to relocate to the Philipinnes..we have visited every year for the last 15 years and our decision is not made lightly..our property is 3 acres of land with a natural spring fed fish pond and in an agricultural area..Tax per year… $7 dollars.

In all seriousness, download info on NPA (New People’s Army) and ASG (Abu Sayyaf Group) from DepState. If you are expat American, Brit or Canadian, you are a target. Police and military in PI are fairly worthless and corrupt as all hell.
I do a lot of work in that part of the world, with a focus on Australia and Indonesia. Most of the government guys I work with consider ASG highly dangerous and, after seeing their handiwork, I’d agree.
Educate yourself and be careful.

I think that relocating to a low-cost country is the solution for many American retirees.
People used to move to Florida and the South. Now moving to the Philippines or Panama is just the next step in a globalized world.
