The new smart financial move is walking away

by trying to replicate our dna and consume resources while doing so, we are being selfish. why more of me? what’s so great about me that there needs to be more of me? clearly i am very high quality, but still. am i essential? if I were truly selfless, i would have foregone the payment at the sperm bank. yet i wanted to ensure that no lowlifes benefitted from my greatness. yes indeed, the world is lucky to have many of me all over. I am much better than Them.

Once again, selflessness and selfishness is not black and white. The act of conceiving a child might be selfish due to personal gratification. However, the subsequent 25+ years of sacrifice to make sure you raised a good person requires many selfless acts. If you never had a child and raised a child before, I wouldn’t expect you to understand. I didn’t know how much is involved in raising a child until I had one of my own. 3rd party looking in have no idea. I had no idea.

Agree with this, AN. Nobody understands the work and sacrifices until they are doing it themselves.

I had lots of experience with kids before having my own, yet was still unprepared for what it really meant. Not complaining, BTW, just stating a fact.

Oh yes, CaRenter, I agree, vomit is worse than poop. My wife just reminded me that I disappear whenever there is vomit around and that I have never actually dealt with the puke and clean-up of car seats and such. What can I say, it starts my own gag reflexes even to just type this.
