May 16, 2012 at 8:03 PM #743929sdrealtorParticipantI fail to see the problem with his $219,000 pension. How else could we expect him to pay his $900,000 mortgage?

Zoll, 61, did not return calls to home or work numbers for this story. He worked six years for the city of Carlsbad before retiring in 2009. He also worked 37 years in the county sheriff’s department. He retired at 58, after working for 43 years, and he gets $3.2k/month for 6 years spent in Carlsbad.

So he start working for the sheriff’s department at age 15? Did he drop out of school?
Well, when I was a teen, I remember the LA Sheriff came on campus to recruit folks. I remember speaking to someone from Lomita dept….At the time they were desperately looking for recruits. I remember to apply, you just needed a H.S. diploma, meet minimum height requirements, and there was some sort of exam of sort, that was a basic R/W of some sort. The guy I spoke to was an ex-aerospace machinist. He switched over to be cop because he wanted the job security. Nice guy… There weren’t many people in our school that were interested. Except maybe 4-5 people. They were the same people that had a major boner for authority and being in charge, 1 I believe was a borderline bully at school..
I pretended to be interested at the time, because I wanted to get to know the officer patrolling around our school at the time. I thought it might come in handy in case I got a few tickets…Have to admit, the idea being a cop at the time was kinda cool.

More importantly you fail once again to address the real issue which is the sense of entitlement allow said person to call emergency to take them to fill their script. You also fail to address the lack of controls. And desperately needed cold hearted was that will shunt them to wait or alternative care.
If you don’t treat gout ilt will cause problem that will eventually kill you. The individual needs to meet us half way
NSR,
Apparently you missed the point of the article. They are trying to come up with new ways to triage these patients so they don’t use up as many resources (read: taxpayers’ money).
Of course, there are some major liability issues, which is why it’s not being done already.
Also, I’m not sure they are “entitled” as much as they are desperate for help. While many Piggs are blessed with an above-average intellect (among other lucky gifts that none of us “earned,” no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves otherwise), not everyone is so lucky. Some people don’t have the skills, intelligence, personality, knowledge, money, etc. that would enable them to navigate around our clusterf**k of a healthcare system. They do the only thing that they know will get them the help they need, and that’s call 911. This article was about trying to find alternatives for them.
And yes, people will end up dying in the streets and will spread diseases if we don’t have a way to deal with them. In case you haven’t noticed, countries without social safety nets and healthcare for the poor tend to have more (and more horrific) diseases, more deaths at younger ages, and higher crime rates. It goes with the territory.

Be very afraid! The tax hike party is close to getting 2/3 majority in both the state assembly and state senate. After november the last line of defense between you and the tax hike ( public vote) will be gone.

Nope, 2 more weeks until my due date (and then another 2 weeks until my dr would induce – he is old school in that way). I’m trying my hardest to evict her now, though!

Well, you DID say only 4-5 were interested… But still, I am amazed. Doesn’t seem like a LA Sheriff target school. (My HS, in comparison, was more of a “target” school in that they were targeting future arrests, haha).
