Stocks.Why are there so many different ones?

I went to yahoo finance and did a search for Ford. At least 15 different stock symbols show up. Now I’m no genius but I am aware of a few categories such as common,preferred,and class A or B stock. Why does Ford Motor Company(and I’m sure other companies as well)have so many different stocks? Just seems confusing to me. By the way I’m thinking if the market gets low enough I might become a day trader. There is another term for day trader but I can’t recall it right now.

LOL. Exactly what I was thinking. I think I’d rather take my chances playing professional poker than day trading personally.
