When I was looking for a new place a few months ago we ran across this scam twice. Usually they didnt send that long of an email, just, ‘ I moved to africa to help with (charity, ususally religious) and want someone to take care of my place until I get back. I am offering reduced rent so I can find someone I trust.” My favorite of the two was that they then sent us pics in the email of a house that was obviuosly not in that neighborhood at all.
Needless to say we didnt write back.April 23, 2009 at 11:47 AM #386459DWCAPParticipantWhen I was looking for a new place a few months ago we ran across this scam twice. I guess all it takes is 1 in 5000 to bite and thats average years salary for them. Just didn’t think anyone so close to me would fall for this crap. http://www.419eater.com the scambaiting website is always fun to check out from time to time.

I’m currently renting a place found on craigslist. At first I was concerned whether I was even renting from the rightful owner. There are scammers out there who will pose as the owner of a place, take your first month’s rent and security deposit and be gone.
