GuestSan Francisco is great if you are unflinchingly liberal, communist, gay, homeless or rich or wish to become one of the aforementioned. Other than that, it has nice architecture ($$$) good Chinese food (so what) good weather (not as good as SD) and great earthquakes.
I’ll take SD.I’m in Boston now, but not for long…

ParticipantTuVu,
When I read your original post, I couldn’t help but thinking: “I was exactly like his/her daughter when I was in my 20s”.
During my 20s, I got my first job in San Diego & moved here. Back then, I couldn’t wait to get out of SD & move to the bay area or LA/Orange county.
After 2.5 years in SD, I found a job in OC. And after 2.5 years in OC, I moved to the bay area for another job. Like others have said, the SF bay & LA are much more attractive to young, single professionals.
Now that I’m married with children, San Diego is the perfect place for me:
– SD has less traffic –> shorter commute –> more time with my children.
– Slower pace –> less hectic for already busy parents.
– Nice weatherIMHO, the best place for someone very much depends on where (the phase) he/she is in life.
