I have a family of five adults and we will be renting a house that has a pool and spa. The house is exceptionally nice. It is 3000+ sq. ft. I will be paying $2000/mo rent. and I will be performing pool and yard maintenance myself.
Yeah, I agree, you should get renter's insurance.
Where are you renting? Sounds like a great deal. I'm sure that other renters would like to know.

If yor purchase a renters policy be smart and take 1 hour to put together a contents inventory list. If you ever do have to put a claim in this helps the adjuster get things moving. Additonally I would go ahead and take digital photo's or a videotape and give a copy to my agents. Again it helps to get things moving and relieves you of the burden if you need to use the policy.
Also know that their are policy limits on certain items. Jewelery is limited so if you ahve a lot see what it costs for a rider. Gun collections, expensive carpets, etc. I might also inquire if the coverage would extend to occurences such as lost luggage if you ar traveling. This hit me as my company covered me in the event of theft but not in the event of a mysterious disappearance.
Best of luck. I would budeget about 250 to 500 depending on the amount of coverage and the provider of that coverage.
FWIW: If you or your wife have a lot of jewelry, most standard homeowners/renter's insurance are completely inadequate specifically for jewelry… usually only insuring a few hundred or a low thousands, with a low maximum total across all jewelry. If your wife has a costly diamond engagement ring or you have a costly watch, I would recommend you talk to companies companies that specifically insure jewelry… like Chubb. They insure loss, theft, and damage (yes diamonds do crack if you hit them with enough force). Maximum per piece I believe is $50k. Plus insurance is lower if the piece is most of the time kept in the bank vault, and only occasionally worn.

For me, I'll wear Timex's and Seiko's on the rare occasion I wear a watch, so it doesn't really apply to me, and most of the jewelry wifey wears is considered decorative and not expensive to consider insurance. The only exception is the engagement ring, which sits locked up in the bank almost all the time.
I know people that have Tag Heuer watches or the likes, and have had them stolen only to find that homeowner's insurance didn't really cover jack on jewelry.
