June 2, 2010 at 8:31 AM #558399MANmomParticipantMy only update is that we are still renting…there are just no great properties on the market and those that are on the market are priced too high. The properties on the market now are older homes with outdated interiors and they still want full price for them. We have looked at several, one in particular was newer, on a canyon, but overlooked huge power lines and you could hear the freeway. Had a nice lot, but it was not a five bedroom (like the ad said) and it had water damage in the wood floor from a kitchen leak. Outside, there was a horrible shed-like structure that was a steam room like thing. It had a pool, but when they built it they didn’t put a spa in, so they added an above ground one later, the lot was a mess with fruit trees planted haphazardly and stupid cement walking stones…just looked cheezy and they wanted way more than what I considered reasonable. We have looked at probably 50 properties in the last few years, only two or three were houses that we would fork over lots of dollars for. One we did put in an offer on, it was a foreclosure, and the flipper did minimal repairs/upgrades and still priced it high. They replace the kitchen counter with cheap granite-look garbage, the spa needed work, the barbeque had no door on the cabinet, there were burn stains on the counters in the bathroom…and someone payed full price for it. I just don’t understand why people will shell out that kind of money for a house that needs $50,000 of work. We are now looking in 4S ranch in the areas with low mello roos, PQ is rediculously overpriced. We would buy here if we found a decent house on a nice lot, I am all for getting a fixer, but nothing has been for sale for our needs. Our big requirements are: 5 beds, at least on downstairs with a bath, nice back yard with no street noise or power lines and a decent kitchen-family room combination. Sorry to say that 4S has a lot of homes with these amenities, PQ is sadly dated in most areas.
