we were absolutely saved by the clearing between the the brushes of the hill with the cross and our home in Vista Del Lago.
bless the HOA for getting that done just a few months before.
October 22, 2007 at 10:24 AM #90529LostCatParticipantHow bad can this get. What is the weather forcast? I almost bought in Del Sur. Thank god I didn’t. Wow! Fire, Mountain Lion attacks, traffic, long commutes, high HOA, High Melaroos, empty lots, but it’s safe right? Away from all that city stuff.

October 22, 2007 at 10:37 AM #90533BugsParticipantA fireman was just quoted in an on-camera interview that the RB fire could burn to the coast because there’s basically nothing standing in the way to stop it.

October 22, 2007 at 10:44 AM #90537CoronitaParticipantJust fyi… Parts of Carmel Valley have been evaced (everything north of 56).
Living south of 56, I'm currently hosting a few families. But I'm waiting for the evac orders to extend south. This isn't good.
Basically, the problem is no aircrafts are flying right now because it's too windy and we're still waiting for fire equipment from NorCal to arrive. Also, the winds keep pushing the fires west.

October 22, 2007 at 11:25 AM #90559stansdParticipantI’m in RB and we haven’t been evacuated yet, but really thick smoke isn’t far away. This is really bad. We have friends in westwood who are pretty sure their house has burned.
If this is as bad as I think it is, this will save the SD housing market for the next year or two….lots of buyers with money about to enter the market.

Uh, how do you figure that? If anything, this will hasten the decline because the real values will be assessed by the insurance companies and they aint going to use 2005 comps I’m pretty sure.

7:31 a.m.
Emergency officials are urging people to avoid using major highways within the county today. The roadways need to remain clear for evacuations.Officials also ask that people keep their cell phone use to a minimum to keep lines open for emergency officials to communicate.
County spokeswoman Lesley Kirk says if you do not need to be on the road then please do not drive. She also advises people to check with their employers before they go to work today to make sure they still need to come in.

October 22, 2007 at 11:53 AM #90577jimmyleParticipantmany retirees will take this opportunity to move somewhere. The result will be a lot of affordable new homes (build to replace the lost homes). However, would you buy in an area that has a second major fire in 4 years?
We are still too early to be able to tell what is the extent of the damage. If the damage is in the range of several thousand homes then I think it will bring in a lot of contruction businesses with insurance and federal/state aid money.
