Pinic and Kayaking in San Diego

Hi,

I am planning to have friends and family from OC over for a BBQ and Kayaking in San Diego this coming Sunday. I need to rent two tandem Kayaks all day for a group of about ten people.

My questions are:

1. Which beach is good for Bbqing and kayaking? Hopefully the launch site is near the picnic area.
2. Where to rent?
3. Do I need to get there early to get a spot?

I called this place and they said they are only a few hundred yards from the bbq location on the beach.
