Penny Pinching: Is there a limit?

I was once stationed at Dyess AFB, and I met my girlfriend and future wife while there. At the end of the war my best friend, and roommate came back from Turkey, and since so many troops were returning the base threw a giant party. Beer trucks with endless kegs, civilians allowed to walk about the place, and Domino’s Pizza was there serving everyone. They threw the boxes out, but my wife as a hungry college student was quite familiar with Domino’s policy at the time of collecting dots (the flap on the front of the box), because 5 dots meant a free pizza.

So our take on rummaging around that day was around 80 dots. Rather than be obvious and tip off Domino’s we usually bought a pie, and used the dots to get a second one free.

I think that scavenging, however, is illegal because the trash belongs to the trash collectors. I believe there was a court case about people stealing recyclable cans. The curbside trash belongs to the trash collection company or the city (if the city does the trash collecting).

patiently, thanks for the link. I came late to the program, so I wasn’t aware that they were taking a political stance as well. I figured there was more to it though because these people weren’t poor and could afford to buy food.
