The Del Mar house was 3100 sf and in extremely good condition, even award-winning remodeling to the kitchen and master suite. It had beautiful ocean views from 3 decks, not just peek views mind you. I’ve lurked on this site for a couple of years and have been renting in Carmel Valley for 1.5 years, believing fully as you all do that this is the right course of action as we all watch things continue downward. Point being that I am pretty tuned in to market values. I am a commercial real estate developer, not in SoCal but in the midwest, and try to remain logical and unexcitable about values and pricing, but I gotta tell you I was fairly well surprised when the broker told me about the pricing and reduction being taken last week. In fact, I was so excited that I forgot two things: one, that at $1.9m its still $600+ psf which means there’s yet likely another $500k drop coming to houses similar to this if my wife will just be patient, and two, I still can’t afford it at $1.4m.
