This has been really helpful. No, not trying to hide it or anything like that. I bought this a few months ago and its a large chunk of my assets and am just trying to protect it. I know its not the smartest investment for my age, but I like the scenario of it all. I am thinking about doing a homestead on it. That should be adequate protection. I guess I’ve always thought there was some way of opening a trust or something along those lines to protect your nest egg.
dwh, congrats to you for being able to obtain a guaranteed place to live (or rent out) at such a young age without the hassles and insecurity of a lender! Your username indicates you hail from Murrietta Hot Sprs?? Hopefully, you were also able to get a spacious lot up there.
There’s nothing wrong with having a “free & clear” property . . . nothing wrong at all.
Filing a Homestead Declaration is a good idea.
