I hate dogs.
June 22, 2014 at 5:50 PM #775598scaredyclassicParticipantI like kids more now that I have some. Usually I ask one i first meet nowadays
So. How’s your childhood going?
June 22, 2014 at 5:52 PM #775600UCGalParticipantI like kids. My BFF does not. Actually, that’s not true -she’s ok with them, but never wanted her own, and prefers to arrange her life around a more adult crowd. But she says she enjoys my kids. (My kids are from lake wobegon, where my kids are exceptional. LOL.)
I think it’s smart that she recognized she wasn’t naturally maternal and didn’t bow to cultural pressure to have kids. Too many people who *shouldn’t* have kids because they don’t enjoy them, have them anyway because parents, churches, friends all expect them too.
So I’m ok with someone not liking kids as long as they don’t expect me to hide mine away if they choose to visit me and aren’t rude to them.
June 22, 2014 at 5:53 PM #775601joecParticipantI have kids and I don’t mind people saying “I can’t stand kids.”
You have to understand for them to say/think this, probably they were at some theater, restaurant, etc…where the kids there also were very poorly behaved. People are made up of their experiences and it’s taboo to have any prejudices nowadays.
If you choose to ignore people who have some, feel perfectly ahead. That’s your choice. It shouldn’t be used in some unlawful actions like hiring, housing, etc since that’s illegal, but I think everyone is racist/prejudice to some degree that it will affect all decisions a little.
I agree that society doesn’t allow freedom of thought. You say anything like “I hate dogs!” and people think you are the like the equivalent of being Hitler…(maybe I got bitten or mauled?)
I think people just need to be more tolerant and accept that some people aren’t like us and it’s ok for others to ignore other people or have prejudices.

I’ll be a taboo breaker here –This week I retired. (If I live cheap, I’m done working forever.)
The week before I paid off my mortgage. (Public record anyway).
Hooray!!!!!!!! π
Congratulations on both paying off your house and your retirement! I thought you still had a year or so to go. You’ve certainly done your research and worked hard toward your goals. Nicely done, UCGal!
What’s awesome is that you get to spend time with your kids when they are still young-ish. Didn’t your DH retire recently, too? Travel plans, or?
I am so very happy for you!
Thanks CAR. Market gains moved it up a little. (I didn’t plan for last years go-go-go market. Plus I found ways to tighten my budget up a little, so I needed less.My kids will not know what hit them. I’m going to do my best to embarrass them every day by give them big public kisses when I drop them off at school. LOL.
June 22, 2014 at 6:15 PM #775605NotCrankyParticipantMy longest closest friend never married , no kids, no dogs but doesn’t act too weird about any of those things as if they are taboo to some brand of acceptable living.

BS – that’s not what I think or said – I think.
I merely made an observation and offered an example.
As far as disliking/hating children – give me a break – these are the a holes sitting on a pedestal who like to sneer and judge parents and look at kids as nothing more than an annoyance. The vast majority (if not all) of these people are 100% POS a holes IMO.
Why do people hate kids? The example I often hear: they were at a restaurant kids were making noise bla bla bla. BFD!
Most of the miserable a holes complaining about kids in the restaurant are worse than the kids. Quit your damn whining.
At one point in your life you weren’t a screaming little kid? Oh no, that’s right, I forgot – you’re all perfect.
People suck, period…no, adults suck.
Not wanting to have kids and just plain hating kids are two different things.
As for those who hate kids I hope they don’t have any – humanity needs you out of the gene pool.
Now I will admit that there are many a hole parents who raise a hole kids IMO. Oh well.
I have never heard of anyone say: I hate kids and then not act on that hatred in one way or another.
They will; they absolutely will.
No double standard here.

Good god. Where to even start. I guess I’ll ignore the anger and the stupidity and the arrogance and the passive-aggressiveness (although I’ll be happy to point those out, too, if you want, paramount) and go right for the hypocrisy.
You have a gift for hypocrisy, paramount. It’s truly amazing.
Your two posts that I originally responded to were hypocritical in a hilariously concise fashion. Two brief, consecutive posts that displayed such hypocrisy.
Here’s another gem of concise hypocrisy:

In the very same sentence! It’s sad that you don’t see it, but it’s hilarious that you do it so cleanly. So quickly. Like a master chef butchering a fish. A flashing of knives and a flurry of chops and, faster than you can really fathom, there’s a masterpiece of fish fillets ready to throw on the grill. No wasted motion or effort. Amazing.

Paramount, as much as I like to give you grief, it’s good to have you here, too.
You’ve got to admit, though, that you do tend to be rather hypocritical. Zk already pointed out another nugget. The other glaring example is your hatred of all things govt, while you work for a govt contractor (and your wife might be a former/current/hopeful public school teacher, too!?!?). You’ve got to admit, this is pretty funny.

Been thinking about your situation while running errands today. I am seriously giddy for you. You deserve a ton of credit for preparing so well, and I know that you’ve made allowances for things like travel, rainy day stuff, etc. That’s very impressive.
As for those kisses, while they might pretend to hate it, you know that deep inside, they love it! You are going to have so much fun!!! π

I’m not judging, I merely offered an observation and then an example. It’s all about discernment. There is a difference.
June 24, 2014 at 1:03 PM #775654FlyerInHiGuestisn’t thiswhole tread to bitch about what we wouldn’t bitch about in social settings?
Being disdainful and judgmental is how, as a society, we prevent people from doing things we don’t like.
