So you have heard that schools monitor social media and if students (or parents) bully students or criticize, er bully administration even from home they can get fine, expelled, arrested, etc. Some schools are subscribing to a service that monitors social media for any threats. We are so fortunate that schools finally have made safety priority #1.
That is not enough. We must keep the children safe. There are thousands of kids who are being injured, killed at school, near school or by classmates away from school. Now we a revolutionary new system that will detect threatening words, gunshots, etc in real times and alert authorities.
Company promises that system leverages volume sales, scales wonderfully so costs should be same as current school system. Sadly this proprietary system is not mandatory yet. But I’m sure a little encouragement from state officials and they could get no bid contract for all schools.
No, I of course don’t have smarts to have anything to do with this firm.
Anyone want to estimate the amount of time that it will take for kids to:
1) Find a work around, ie: “Mow the lawn” now means “Beat you up after school”.
2) Figure out how to screw with the system by intentionally seeding their conversations with trigger words and phrases.
Scary stuff. I think a lot of people are really unaware when it comes to privacy and technology. We are already very deep into “Big Brother” territory.
