Actually I almost went to that show. Short answer is that I think its based on contract between band/venue.
Now I saw metallica there in Dec and there was beer. I saw tool there sometime in the last 2 years and don’t remember there being beer.
And I remember that back in the day Metallica would not allow beer sales during due to a stipulation in the venue contract that would make Metallica liable for all the seat/bathroom damage if alcohol was sold during the show. They would not be liable for damage if they didn’t have alcohol sales.

March 10, 2009 at 12:35 PM #363799CardiffBaseballParticipantok that makes sense because the guy seemed to suggest that no it was a slipknot thing. Maybe they didn’t want the liability. I assume for the bands there is very little reward for a lot of risk with drunks out there.
Slipknot was pretty wild and definitely not something my wife needed to take the boys to. I’ll let her handle the off-broadway stuff, but not this.

March 10, 2009 at 1:40 PM #364008SanDiegoDaveParticipantHow drunk can someone possibly get? Last concert I saw there the beer wait was at least 15 minutes.
The bands probably aren’t making enough off merchandise sales to make up for liability. One would think that’s what insurance is for. But, the effort to find any logic or sense in large venue alcohol sales policies is a fruitless one for certain.
