Mx-5 Miata…. Fits right under your budget…
Come on. These things are blast..

I am not a car expert but I can write in as a Miata owner to endorse this opinion. I have been driving one since early 03 and I absolutely love it. So much fun to tool around this little thing with the top down (just took my gf on a road trip around Santa Ynez wine country; having a little convertible roadster makes such a trip much more enjoyable — but its a lot of fun to just drive around town too).
I’m not alone on this, all car magazines reviews I’ve read have been ridiculously positive (at least when I bought it — that’s one of the things that swayed me — but I’ve read reviews on newer models which have also gotten raves).
It’s obviously small and a 2 seater so it helps to have an SO with a more practical car for hauling stuff around, but that’s really the only downside imho.
FWIW I have the previous (2nd) generation, the new generation is even cooler from what I’ve heard.

The local Miata club is a great group of people:
They had their ‘Puke Run’ last weekend. The run leader takes you on a wild ride on the backroads to Julian. The last one to ‘puke’ wins.

As a fellow former Camaro owner (two of them, plus a Firebird), I’m partial to the new Camaro. That convertible looks NICE!!! π
One more thought…not sure if you like the older cars, but you might consider getting an older Camaro or Corvette and fix up whatever needs to be fixed. You might be able to get away with no car payments. Just a thought.
————–Oh, my goodness. I just looked up some used Camaros and holy cow! Those are no cheaper than a lot of new cars! What’s funny is when I sold mine, they were worth just a couple thousand. Wow.
——————-Okay, I take back the suggestion to buy a used Camaro. Used cars seem to cost a lot more today than they used to. Guess it’s that “falling dollar” thing???
How about something like this (It’s a convertible, and it’s well under your limit…not sure about the model, though, as I’m not a MB fan.):

[/quote]Yeah, huh. I saw a Camaro SS on Mecum auction and couldn’t believe what they were going for. I totally know what you mean. I remember selling mine for a few grand. Who’dda thunk those would be worth so much now. Be one heck of a down payment on a house.
I was considering getting some real old car and fixing it up. Maybe that’s why I was leaning toward Camaro. Retro feel w/modern conveniences. I’m halfway thinking of going w/out a car for a while and waiting for the convertible and/or Z28.
Yeah. I’m making myself crazy. Maybe I suffered more of a head injury than I thought π
