I agree. Putin is a brilliant man and perfectly capable of being a cutthroat. It is his KGB pedigree showing. He is no Gorbachev. He is too young to remember the purges and he does not like people. He likes power.

Some believe/ignore things based on personal feelings. Some take a fact based approach as to what they believe but in the end we all believe what we want to believe.

If you are going to get all the information you can in order to make larger decisions, then the least you could do (if you care whether or not you’re going to make good decisions) is to get the easy stuff right. How do you expect to make good decisions on larger issues (like who to vote for) if you don’t bother to take a few seconds to find out what’s true and what’s not?
