OT: Maybe this is a dumb question

The birth certificate argument will never go away. It is useful for distracting people while their transition to total serfdom is completed. It’s just this year’s flavor of John Kerry wasn’t on a Swift Boat/George Bush had a DUI/Bill Clinton was a draft dodger/Al Gore said he invented the internet/Sarah Palin can’t really see Russia from Alaska/Ross Perot has big ears and talks funny/Michael Dukakis looks funny riding in that tank/etc… When we get the next big crop of candidates in 2012, expect a whole new batch of silly stories that Jon Stewart can make little jokes about. The folks at your office will chatter endlessly about these meaningless diversions. There will be SNL skits and little songs that we can all watch and giggle about instead of paying attention to what’s happening in our neighborhoods and around the world.

The more you get people talking about stuff that doesn’t matter, the less time they have to talk about things that do matter. It’s elementary! Control 101.

You’re right that he would be an American citizen no matter where he was born because his mother was an American citizen. There is a question whether he would be a “natural born citizen” if he was born outside the US or a US protectorate (and some other exceptions). If he was in fact born in Kenya, he would still be a US citizen. His parents would have taken rediculous steps to plan and prove his Hawaii birth for absolutely no other reason than they planned on him being a candidate for president. No other reason. An absolutely rediculous idea.

Obama had only one U.S. parent (his mother)) and she had not resided in the U.S. for at least 5 years after she was 16 because she was 18 when she gave birth to Obama. Thus the claim of him not being ‘natural born'”. That is why the Hawaii issue continues to arise, because that would make him a citizen using the 14th amendment. I think it is a distraction from more important issues.
