Participant
ljinvestor,
Is there a list of the specific lab tests each will require? Do they all require the same standard tests or are they different?
Unfortunately, I had a parent die of a heart attack very young, so I think I will need near perfect lab results to get a good rate.
With that family history I’m pretty sure you can’t get Pref Best no matter how healthy you are. Certain carriers have underwriting niches and a good agent will know those
Once again, an agent that works with a agency that represents multiple carriers can ask some basic questions of your health & history and narrow it down to a few carriers. Some agents will actually take that info and get informal offers from 4-5 carriers to see which one you should take the application with.

ParticipantI’m with USAA as well. I love the company and their service, and have been a auto insurance my whole life, now I have home insurance as well. I was disappointed with their pricing of Life Insurance (their mortgage department also disappointed me I’m afraid, and I had to go with Wells Fargo.)
As near as I can tell, term life is entirely a price commodity. I looked on the price comparison sites, then contacted Rich (the site’s proprietor if you aren’t familiar.) His partner John is a broker for life insurance, and got me the same price I’d found online.
I found it convenient to go through them. John (being my financial adviser as well) also talked me through the amount calculation, which was helpful to me. I’d roughed out some numbers, but he added some more info that changed my calculations a little.
Anyway, just my two cents. Good luck!

ParticipantI am also a USAA member and have Home, auto, other property, banking etc with them so just decided to go with them for life (30 yr term). They are a bit higher than other companies and I am in the top category for health, as I called and asked as a followup.
My father has MS which I disclosed to them but this didnt seem to impact my rate. Other than two grandparents dieing as a result of lung cancer (both heavy smokers till their last days), we have no other family history.
The process was rather simple.
