Allan,
I watched it and I call BS on that Canadian guy and I did not like the Knights v. Pirates. I come from a long line of Templar Knights. Also, I did not think the one with the Apache winning was accurate. I think I have too much time on my hands to watch the show.
Aecetia: I agree! That knight would have eviscerated the pirate with that halberd! And don’t get me started on the green berets versus the Soviet spetsnaz. I don’t recall the Apache show, but I’m sure my son will know.
BTW, Teutonic Knights kick ass on Templar Knights! Except for maybe the Hospitalers.
Haven’t seen the show on the Spetnazs but after seeing some Spetnazs officers in afghanistan (film… that is I am not in the armed forces) I about pee’d my self laughing… Man… they had some “rotund” guys…
For pure voyer pleasure I watch Special Operations Missions with Will Willis (Militray Channel)… One ex operator taking on a small size force of guys to achieve a mission… All done with simunitions and cameras installed on the guns… Many of the opponets are ex Rangers, SEALs and the like. Great Fun!

November 9, 2009 at 7:40 AM #479305blahblahblahParticipantWe are living “Idiocracy” to be sure. When I was a kid we watched The Carol Burnett Show, Good Times, All In The Family, etc… There was no cursing, very little violence, and for sex people were satisfied with saucy double entendres (remember Match Game?) that went straight over the kids heads. We children of the late 60s/early 70s also loved reruns of the older shows like The Brady Bunch and The Andy Griffith Show, even though they were from an earlier time and seemed a little square. Now we all get our jollies watching people smash things or shoot and torture one another on “24”. Truly amazing. I doubt a 10 year old today could make it through 2 minutes of Andy Griffith before reaching for the XBox controller or switching the TV to some military re-enactment on the history channel. Though these shows are heavy on talk and details, they never show you what bodies look like after they’ve been blown apart. Of course that would be in bad taste.
It’s only a matter of time before the number one TV show in the US will be “Ow My Balls!”

November 9, 2009 at 8:43 AM #479349Allan from FallbrookParticipantCONCHO: I’ve said it before, “Idiocracy” should be required viewing for all American school kids, middle school aged and higher, and their parents.
Of course, I’m also being a total hypocrite, since I happen to love “South Park”, “Family Guy” and the rest of the raunch-fest type shows, right along with my 11yo son.
This is a society that used to aspire to the Highest Common Factor and now we pander to the Lowest Common Denominator.
