Democrats and liberals are terrified of Palin. Constant attempt to package her as a joke in an attempt to discredit her and her message. Same tactic as used on Reagan and Bush.
If her conservative politics were not a threat, the opposition would not give her the time of day. Quite the opposite is happening.

(Such an annoying song, but appropriate for this particular case)
As die-hard conservative, I’ll have to agree with Flu on this one. She is so battered and damaged that she can’t be any good to anyone. She should have stayed as governor. If she can get a TV show, more power to her, but I’d never watch.
President? She’s got no chance . . .

July 4, 2009 at 12:27 AM #425037patbParticipant
Her entire brand was based on the idea that she was tough and principled.
If they spin it that she quit because her family couldn’t take it, then she doesn’t come across as tough. If they make her out to be a hero because she’s sacrificing for her family, it would be pretty hard for her to ever get back in the ring.
If they spin it that she quit to prepare for 2012, then it comes across as crafty. Not exactly principled.
If this is part of a strategy, it’s a very poor move.
If the republicans weren’t spiraling right now, I’d say the only possible explanation is that she is just throwing in the towel. But they’ve been making some bizarre decisions lately, so who knows?
