So I was talking with a college student from some fancy liberal school and all I could think we’re thoughts like my dad had. Good lord. When did I get so old. These kids, they’re dippy in the head! With their crazy notions….
When I start saying fifty year old people look like kids probably time to take me out back and shoot me.
Just getting more and more like him every day. Except for pants size. That’s where I draw the line.
My wife says I should be understanding and patient with young people.
Two more days until I drop off my kid for school. #1 Liberal Arts School in US News (for this region anyway). Nice school but…… just a little too lefty for his taste (Libertarian). He’s already noticed one of the professors he has this semester has written extensively in support of ObamaCare. I told him be careful about arguing with these folks. Read the professor and figure out if she encourages diverse thought. If not, shut your mouth and get through the class. Or, if a professor loves to encourage the debate then fire away.
Don’t worry scaredy, I’m in my 50’s and have grown children who have gone through many phases, but, with our guidance, they realized what they needed to do in order to achieve their dreams in life.
It’s sad to watch the “entitlement mentality” backfiring on many young people, because, in many ways it isn’t their fault that they can’t get great jobs or buy homes, etc., etc., (a long societal dissertation would be necessary to describe the “why,”) but the essence of it is that the game has changed, and they will learn that they either have to deal with life, or life will pass them by.
As your wife said, being understanding and patient is probably the best thing you can do for them and for yourself, even though it may or may not change their ultimate destiny.
