It’s a little more complex than that, but, yes, once societies get “rich” they develop pathologies. People have been getting generally sicker for 50 years. But, on the plus side, it’s generally good for the economy;)
[/quote]
People getting sicker for the last 50 years is good for now because it feeds the medical industrial complex and creates economic growth in that sector.
For now is the key here. Eventually our society will collapse. Sick people can’t produce anything nor can they pay bills.
I actually think that the health crisis is more serious than a potential sovereign debt crisis.
As you said, Arraya, money is just a concept that we conjured up. Now, we keep accounts denominated in Dollars. But just like we created the Dollar, we can create something else, or come to an agreement between debtors and lenders. If things work well, debts could be conjured away.
A sick and infirm population is a clear threat to our national security. Sick people cannot be conjured away, no matter what.

May 6, 2011 at 12:04 AM #692821temeculaguyParticipantForgive my laziness at this late hour, I only read the first two pages before I felt I had enough.
Without getting into the political crap, how can you get weird about gays, or bisexuals or whatever.
Piggintonians are math folks and trend buckers, we are supposed to see through the crap.
And forget about worrying what your kids will learn, that history book is not where they learn about life. You can’t hide reality from people in this world any longer, if they can drive, they already know, even if you failed to talk to them.
So here’s the way I look at it. I encourage Gay men, I support their right to marry each other and be recognized in history books. The fact is, many gay men are better looking than me, dress better and have better manners. Some are not burdened with my need to watch sports or do guy stuff, so on a level playing field, I’d lose women to them every time if you make them all be straight. I need them out of the picture, in fact they take each other out of the equation. You see two people doing something you don’t approve of, I see a giant game of dodge ball and the two best players just took each other out.
And why is the word gay rights always about gay men, lest we not forget the women. What guy doesn’t think female homosexuality or bisexuality is completely weighted in his favor. Lesbian women, for the most part, are fun to hang out with it, some act like and think like men, they are no threat to you. Then there’s the bisexual ones. I don’t even need to mention the hypocrisy that female on female porn is probably 50% of the market for male viewers. You people are lucky I’m not in charge, otherwise that wouldn’t just be a paragraph in a history book, it would replace music or art as an elective. It might be compulsory, like registering for the draft. C’mon admit it, you know that one friend that has a bisexual girlfriend or wife, you envy the crap out of him, don’t you.
So calm down, let people live the way they want, especially of it helps your lot in life. If it were real estate, and nobody wanted a house so you were one of the few buyers, would you get mad about it. No you wouldn’t, you’d be happy to have less competition driving up the prices. It’s the same thing, free your mind, leave people alone that don’t hurt you alone. And Please, these impressionable children you are so worried about, give them a little more credit.

May 6, 2011 at 8:16 AM #692876scaredyclassicParticipantI’d be interested in taking a history of pornography class.
By the way the ap european history test is today. I’ve learned a lot this year just hanging around my kid. Maybe I should recommend the ideaof a paper on the history of porn as a potential thesis for the future.
Say a small prayer to the saints who watch over hs students struggling on ap exams for my little one today! And remember the significance of women during the Lutheran reformation ( as we jokingly discussed during the ride to school today)
