[quote=Raybyrnes]FLU,
Maybe you met a good salesperson who sized you up quickly and figured out it was not worth his time to have you trying to nickel and dime a fairly low margin vehicle.

Damn, I knew I should have pushed for $100 lower. I didn’t beat my personal record.”Maybe this sales person personal record is important to him and that means steering a person like you to the internet or fleet sales division and focusing on customers who will make him a commission.

That salesman needs to walk into a Acura or Lexus dealer and learn a thing or too. Last time ventured into an Lexus dealer test driving a GS with my pops (which I eventually talked him out of anyway :)), it was very evident to the salesguy that I was going be doing my research over the net anyway… Sales guy still spent time with me to do a test drive, which lasted like 15 mins and the showroom floor wasn’t nearly as empty as at the Ford dealer today. Plus, since these Fords don’t come with free service, I’d need to take it somewhere for serve. Evidently not at that dealership….It was *almost* as bad at a high volume Toyota dealership (those are the worst).

Take a look at the Mazda CX-7 or CX-9. I think it’s nicer then the Edge and has the Ford engine with a far superior Japanese designed transmission. It is not US made but it is a much nicer vehicle for the same price.

January 3, 2010 at 11:13 AM #498638RaybyrnesParticipantI think the whole dealership system needs to change. We should be able to buy factory direct. Dealers should register customers who come in for a test drive and should be paid a fee by the manufacturer for acting as an agent.
In return dealers should compensate manufactures for providing marketing of the dealers service departments.
Prices of vehicles would be set by manufacturers so they wold be identical regardless of where you buy. This system would refocus people on service as opposed to transactions.
