I am very active at 49, have great pulse and blood pressure and decent endurance, without any deliberate exercise routine. I could get in better shape for appearance sake, but don’t care much about that. More stretching or yoga,anything relaxing would be good.
Most middle aged people and up should be very careful about running…especially as a coping mechanism for eating and drinking too much. A few good years running could lead to many years of barely being able to walk. Use it while you are learning better habits perhaps, but stay super moderate.

I started this regimen in Jan ’09 and feel much better and stronger. Before that, I was just getting my exercise from manual labor (akin to scaredy’s slope/weedwacker job) and it really wasn’t enough and was not hitting the right muscle groups.
My kids mostly walks the dog but I would say I walk it about 1 hr per week. I have a very small dog who can’t walk that far. I took her on a 3 mile walk once and had to pick her up and carry her a couple of times. Then she wouldn’t drink and nearly went into shock on the car ride home :={

Work out 45-60 min. 7 days a week (circuit training, cardio, weights….I like to mix it up).
Yoga for 25 min. 5 days a week.
Run, Rollerblade, or Run/Walk/Stairs 45-60 min. 1 day a week. Running days I may only work out another 30 min. that day depending on how I’m feeling. When it gets colder I up running to 2 days a week.
Weekends there’s hiking, biking, or if we’re camping, dirt bike riding mixed in there. (If you don’t think dirt bike riding is a workout then you haven’t done it.)

I vacuum the house almost every day, too (if you don’t think vacuuming is a workout, then you haven’t done it!). π

September 2, 2011 at 4:47 AM #727987moneymakerParticipantFor me it varies. Once upon a time I was a regular @ the gym, bought a treadmill several months back so now rarely go to the gym. I like to do a 300 Calorie workout that takes 30 minutes. Today I’m planning on going to the beach to play with the sharks(jk). Boogy boarding with fins on is the most fun way for me to burn Calories. A couple of hours of wave riding and I think I’m good for the day as far as exercise goes.

September 2, 2011 at 11:39 AM #728210montanaParticipantI realized that I wasn’t in the shape that I needed to be in when 5 of the 6 days of skiing I had this winter were powder days. I’m determined to keep my legs in better shape and be able to get more than 3 runs in without my quads burning up this next winter.
Therefore….
I started running more frequently up and down the hills in my neighborhood and just about died as all I was used to running was around the bay downtown where I used to live. That lead to buying the “Insanity” workout that I did in April and May. Now I am in the best shape I have been in 10 years. Since completing the workout, I now get a 3, 5, and 7 mile run in up and down the hills every week. Except for last week when we put in some serious mileage and elevation in Glacier Park.
