As a Chicagoan, I’ll give you my take.
This city as far as politics goes is a cesspool. In fact, the entire county and possibly the state are cesspools as well. In my lifetime three ex-Govs have done time; Ryan, Walker, Kerner and now Blago looks perhaps to be joining him.
The Olympic plan imo was ridiculous. Case in point, Daley wanted to build a temporary Olympic Stadium. He wanted the taxpayers on the hook for a $200 million plus stadium which they planned to tear down after the Olympics. I thought the point of getting something like this is so you can have lasting infrastructure improvements. Apparently that isn’t the case here.
And if you want an idea of how things are done her just look at Soldier Field. It is a monstrosity. The once historic landmark on the lake now looks like a space ship landed inside it.
These photos are not touched up. This is how politics works in this city. Daley wanted his crony’s to build the stadium where he wanted and that is what they do.

October 6, 2009 at 12:39 PM #464648ArrayaParticipant
Back to the original topic of the Olympics. I was talking to my cousin in Ohio. Her husband (whom I think she should divorce) is a vociferous Republican engineer who’s been unemployed for several years. The longer he’s been unemployed, the more radical he’s become.
He was so happy to see Chicago lose the Olympic bid. He’s even happier that Chicago was kicked out in the first round of voting.
So much for a patriot. He wants our country to lose to inflict a defeat on Obama. Just lame.
I never supported the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, but I hope that we win for our own country’s sake.
On Afghanistan, I felt that getting rid of Taliban was enough. Bringing corrupt Karzai in and undertaking nation building was a big mistake.
Come on brian, there is no winning. You know that. It was a brain dead failed attempt at keeping the empire going. Obama is the transition guy. The country is bankrupt and coming unglued and Obama will be blamed. You can’t stop it. The rise of the christian/capitalist jihadists has begun and it’s going to be ugly.
Once the dollar goes down, they will be calling for blood.

Since you all managed to come full circle again, I’ll pose the question again.
Since when is corrupt Chicago our country?
