Both my sister and I (in two different states) bought carpet from HD and had TERRIBLE experiences. Mine was nearly heading for a lawsuit. They screwed it up so badly – didnt finish a room, crooked runner going up the stairs which they then came back to fix (after months of fighting about it)and it was still crooked! I got sick of it – and the runner is still crooked to this day… My sister’s was about the same (wish I’d asked her before I bought mine). The contractors (all THREE different ones they sent out to us over the months of ridiculousness) were brain-dead fools. Go to a real carpet store and buy something on-sale – it’ll still be better than the top-of-the line installed by HD.
I am refurbishing a house and contracted with Home Depot Temecula for carpet 2 days before this thread was posted. The carpet install was completed this past Thursday. It was flawless and the entire experience was more than satisfactory. The ladies in the HD flooring department were great and HD employee Kristina made sure I saw the installation diagram. She assured me the JW Installations subcontractors were skilled and would perform a professional installation, and they did. I have only good comments about Home Depot. I have a lot of prior exposure to carpet installs (over 1000 of them!) and I know the difference between good and bad work and this work was good.
