Hoping a Dr. of Dentistry can help. I’ve had sinus problems for approx 20 years, 5 surgeries, hundreds of prescriptions for antibiotics, and for the last year or more could smell this foul odor near my sinus on the right side. Recently found out the cause was an infected root canal done in my teens, now am 50. The CT Scan showed infection around the tip of the root upper #3 and a large amount of bone loss. I had the tooth extracted approx. 1 month ago and the oral surgeon put in the bone graft material the same day. She said there might be a small piece of tooth up near the sinus she could not get to, she said I did not need antibiotics. My Ent put me on antibiotics, I started to feel better, but within a week or so got another sinus infection, and the site where the tooth was extracted gum area above where graft is feels painful, both sides, and I faintly smell the odor again. The oral surgeon says it looks fine. An x-ray shows nothing abnormal since there is graft material in the socket. If I’ve had infection for 20 years should we have waited on the bone graft to ensure the infection is gone. How would I determine if the infection is gone in the socket, tissue and bone? I really appreciate your help as I am normally a happy girl, but not at this moment.

Like the doc says, use a straw.
Don’t eat or drink hot and cold stuff. Consume everything at room temperature.
Temp changes cause you teeth to dilate and contract making them more porous.
Gargle with Hydrogen Peroxide after consuming food (it’s bleach).
Too much strong bleaching is not good, it makes your teeth thinner and they will wear out and fall fall off sooner. Teeth implants are expensive.

October 22, 2009 at 7:54 PM #472473AnonymousGuestAll three of my kids had their wisdom teeth removed, as did I when I was 18. Not one of us had a bone graft nor did the dentist mention this as something needing to be done.
