I personally do not believe in buying cheap insurance. You do get what you pay for. When I shopped for insurance, I found the cheaper rates were commensurate with lower coverage limits.
In some cases this is true, like with Mercury. With Wawanesa, my rate is lower than any insurance I’ve had, and the coverage good (100/300/100, 500 comp/coll, towing, rental). They actually seem too good to be true. I’m hoping I don’t have to find out just how good they really are via a totalled vehicle, as I did with Farmers (whom I had to fight for nearly a year and still got royally screwed, despite the outrageous premium).

November 12, 2008 at 1:30 PM #303296PCinSDGuestRen, I’ve had 2 positive experiences with Wawanesa regarding property damage settlements. I had a 67 Impala, nice shape, 50k original miles. I purchased it for a little over $3k. It was stolen. Wawanesa gave me $6k.
Second scenario. I had a 2000 Toyota tundra. Excellent condition, about 50k miles. I purchased it used for $12,500. I totaled it a short time later. They gave me $16k.

November 12, 2008 at 1:59 PM #303306EugeneParticipantMy wife was in an accident, both her car and the one she ran into were totaled. Wawanesa paid rather generously for the car and for the rental. They gave us median asking price for a similar car from Autotrader. It was a 5 year old Toyota RAV4 with 80k miles and, IIRC, we got around 11k.
