But look on the bright side. At least you have the option to not pay and not use their service, unlike participating in something like Social Security.
Why not just get a system without any monitoring (but an annoying alarm…)

ADT is a ripoff. They usually give you a free system but require you to sign a 1+ year monitoring contract for about $30/month or more.
