Participant“The race thing will backfire which will be a good thing for Blacks because they will be free to support the party who has their best interests at heart which now is the Republican Party.”
What caught my attention about this statement was that “Blacks…will be free to support…the Republican party.”
I think not all folks in the US of Amnesia forget, particularly African Americans. LBJ and Robert Kennedy following Brown vs Board of Education advanced civil rights legislation while the Republicans and southern Dems dug their heals and resisted it. Yes, I do remember George Wallace too. And the successful southern strategy Nixon employed, too.
I remember the Vietnam War era as well and how peculiar it was that I would observe my uncle diving in the bushes when the 4th of July fireworks went off (He died of bladder cancer at 40, leaving two children 5 and 2, my dear cousins, perhaps dioxin in the agent orange used as a defoliant, but I digress, after all I would never doubt that the US government is looking out for us or would do anything to harm its own soldiers).
Bottom line is that because of LBJ and Kennedy African Americans vote Democrat by huge margins and will continue doing so. Please consider reading a history book to understand that your fantasy of republicans having african american’s best interest at heart is laughable.

LL,I agree with this.
In any case, lets hope McCain doesn’t play the race card. If he does it would be terrible what that would mean about all republicans. In fairness, Obama has played it too.
Rustico, how has Obama played the race card?

ParticipantSorry don’t know how to make those tiny URLs.
I was going comment how I am too lazy to dig to find the events that give me a recollection of his playing the race card and I guess I should have done that.
See if you think any of these links that come up are valid. I don’t know if they are or not.
I’d like to hear what you think.
