ParticipantI’m not quite sure what this letter has to do with the economy, or the housing crisis, but here are a few points of interest.
Political parties were switched back in Lincolns time. The Republicans then changed into the Dems now, and vise versa. Wikipedia has a nice summary of it.This is a letter from one person. I don’t think this viewpoint is shared by many, and many African Americans are actively against it.
I just can’t see the government paying out for this. At what point does it stop? Do we also pay the Native American Indians for their land? What about the 100-300,000 Irish sold into slavery in America. Do we pay their descendants too? Why not also ask for reparations from the Arabs, or Africans who sold many of the slaves to the colonists
The world was a cruel, hard place, even 150 years ago. Everyone now realizes it was a barbaric thing to do, but at some point, people have to move on, or else we’ll be like the Middle-East, with unresolvable disputes going back 2000 years.

ParticipantDue to the MSM there is a common misconception that Republicans are the racist right wing Nazi’s when in truth it was the Republicans who were the ones for racial equality and freedom for all.
Whenever I find a glimmer of the truth I try to spread it around.
I doubt that very few young people today know the truth about the Democratic Party and is roots.
If there is any doubt on how the Democratic leadership feels about Blacks then all you have to do is watch the Clinton’s do whatever they can do to cheat Obama out of the nomination.

Look for the logical fallacy in this statement, John. The Clinton’s would probably be nasty to anyone running against them. I hope the race thing continues to back fire against them. Tolerance for oppression doesn’t seem to follow strictly along party lines. I can’t really understand trying to make the argument that it does, especially when it is necessary to contain three or four hundred years of history in it.
Malcolm X said something like …A Republican is a wolf and a Democrat is a wolf in sheep’s clothing….whether it is true or not, I think the balance of altruism or lack thereof is probably about equal.

ParticipantI doubt that very few young people today know the truth about the Democratic Party and is roots.
So…it appears that your thought is leading to young people should not support the Democratic Party because of what you believe they supported 100-150 years ago?
Using that logic, you could hate all Americans because, in the past, America supported slavery and did not give women the right to vote. You could hate all Germans because, in the past, Germans supported anti-semitism. And you could hate all Republicans because, in the past, Republicans supported Bush. (sorry, had to throw that one in)
I don’t care what the long ago dead members of the Republican or Democratic parties did or thought 100+ years ago…I care what they are doing right now .
