John, I have to tell you, I’ve got a totally mixed take on you. On the one hand, you’re a vocal Republican, out on in front leading the partisan charge. But you’re a Jets fan, so you can’t be that bad. Now this, with the ETs. I’m going out on a limb here, but I agree with you about the statistical probability of extra-terrestrial life. You’re right.
My take, the universe is too big and too old. Cellular Automata explains many natural phenomena here on Earth convincingly. Evolutionary processes, physical and biological systems, structures, patterns and behaviors are replicated throughout the natural world. In all likelihood, the same elements and forces that led to life here on Earth have been at work elsewhere in the Universe for billions of years.
So here’s my question: doesn’t this kind of perspective on the Universe make the whole human politics thing rather insignificant? How come you’re so vocal with the Republican advocacy thing? That puzzles me. You should be at Comic-Con or something, not trolling the Piggs board with Bush bombs. What gives?

Search on Remote Viewing and see what you find.
Scientists have about the biggest ego’s of any profession. People like to think that they are open minded, adventurous and are constantly stretching the envelope etc. Far from it. They are mostly concerning with keeping their job and not rocking the boat.
John
I have reviewed the evidence. I find it scanty and easily explained by coincidence, suggestion, bias, and hoaxes. It is not observed under any sort of properly controlled experiment that has ever been done to my knowledge.

Haven’t you ever watched Star Trek?? Come on. Get real (g)
Seriously, the evidence is all over the place and the best way to hide a secret is out in the open.
Have you notice how many UFO shows are on A&E, History Channel, Science Channel etc. How you noticed how often they run that movie Indepedence Day? The public is gradually being introduced to the idea of ET’s.
There is no point in the ET’s introducing themselves to the world at large. It would only make it more difficult to do whatever they are doing.
My father who is still alive had a top secret crytographic clearance at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery in the early, mid 60’s. One of his duties was to encrypt/decrypt sensitive cables.
I asked him about UFO’s a couple of years ago and he told me flat out that “quite a few pilots” were killed by UFO’s that they were chasing. He knew this because of the information in the cables. The next of kin were told that they died in training missions.
Have you wondered why we cancelled the last three Apollo missions? The offical story was lack of funds but I don’t buy that. My guess is that they found something there that had to be keep secret so they shut it down..
Have you ever wondered why now, all of a sudden, China, Russia, India and the US are all going back to the Moon? Why now and what for??
As far as hiding themselves from us they don’t do a very good job of it.
One last comment on radio communications. We have had the radio since 1902 when Marconi demonstrated the first transatlantic transmission.
This means that any radio waves from another civilization would have had to pass by in the last few decades when we would have heard it.
My guess is that local civilizations thousands of years ahead of us quit using radio so long ago that there is nothing for us to hear and the ones still using radio have not gotten here yet or have and the government has covered it up.
John
I wasn’t implying that WE would hear their communications – any civilization with FTL travel (implied if they got here reasonably quickly) would presumably have long ago dumped radio like we dumped smoke signals and carrier pigeons.
But THEY would have to know WE are here – and the most likely method would be to detect OUR transmissions – which have covered a miniscule amount of area in the galaxy (about 0.0001% of the galaxy would have had a chance to hear us).
As for the rest – I don’t consider the evidence currently compelling. As I pointed out before, if they wanted to hide, they would have done a better job with their technology, to the point where there would be NO evidence. If they wanted us to know, there would be far more credible evidence – ditto if they didn’t care.
China is going to the moon for national pride (the same reason we did in the 60s). We’re going back there essentially as a staging ground and dry run for Mars missions in the future.
As to the cancelled moon missions in the 70s, considering that we were in the grip of stagflation at the time, and at the time there was little else for us to do there, lack of funds seems to me to be the most plausible explanation.
BTW, if the powers that be were trying to “prepare” humanity for aliens, Independence Day, Alien, and most of the rest of the movies out there aren’t exactly a very good way to do it. The vast majority of movies depict aliens as mauraders – hardly an image we’d want ingrained in the collective psyche if friendly contact was what we were interested in.
Again, bear in mind – I believe that the odds that other life forms exist out there are near certain. I believe that it is most probable that there are civilizations out there that are significantly ahead of us in terms of development. I just don’t think they’re aware of us. I think it would be FAR more obvious if we had drawn the attention of a significantly advanced civilization, and as I mentioned, I don’t buy AT ALL the idea that they would have bothered to contact or in any way reveal (even accidentally) their presence to a primitive (to them) government prior to a full revelation of their existance if they did decide to contact us. If they wanted to “prepare” us for first contact, a civilization that advanced could do so in ways that would NOT involve a government which wouldn’t be under their control.
