A new Camry… that’s what I can buy for $17K, maybe even for less money.
Better yet, buy a used Lexus for $17K. Or a used Camry for $10K-$12K. Let someone else eat the new car depreciation.
If you still want a new Corolla, start buying the newspaper on Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun. You’ll see ads for new Corollas (with AC, stereo, etc.) for $13K or so.

New Corolla is a weird thing. Economy equipment at luxury cost. If you want to save money, buy used Corolla/Echo/Civic for 6-8K. If you want to enjoy life but you’re afraid that gas prices might go back up, buy something fun and put some money into an oil index fund.

March 3, 2009 at 7:27 PM #359716Jim JonesParticipantMy advise on buying a new car.
(1) Buy Friday morning early San Diego Tribune.
(2) Go to dealership and purchase the loss leader they have for sale the minute they open.
(3) Smile as the sales agent cries, they are never supposed to sell that car, but claim it’s already been sold.
(4) If they claim the car is not there, just let them know you will call the State AG and report them. The state loves that kind of complaint.
