amazing how the shows keep changing on TLC to suit the climate…during the boom it was “flip this house” now it is “please by my house” LOL!
October 7, 2007 at 4:35 AM #87224AnonymousGuestThe show fails to mention the kind of profits the sellers are trying to get. It looked to me that the sellers were trying to get the typical unrealistic prices. I didn’t feel sorry for any of them. The NC family was asking the typical outragous price for their Florida home. Their home was less square feet than my Virginia home, older and I have 5 acres. I paid $155K for my brand new home in 1997. They are asking like $749 for theirs (their reduced price) and it maybe had a half acre or so of land.
October 7, 2007 at 6:16 AM #87225mydogsarelazyParticipantTwo of the three situations profiled in the show last night had to do with families who had purchased new homes without selling their existing homes. The desperation portrayed was painful, but what blew my mind is that one of the success stories involved a woman who got an offer one day after having her home totally gone over by a feng-shui expert.
Yes, this show adjusts real estate reality in a new direction…

October 7, 2007 at 4:34 PM #87257crParticipantOther possible revised HGTV/TLC titles in the works:
“Trading Mortgages”
“Bail Me Out”
“Foreclose that House”
“What’s with that REO”
“Buy Me for more than I’m Worth”
“The Overpricing Pros”
“Priced to Never Sell”
“My House is Worth Less than I Payed?”Some of the ones at HGTV don’t need a new title:
“Look What I Did!”
“If Walls COuld Talk”
“My House is Worth What?”
“Over Your Head”October 8, 2007 at 3:33 AM #87293AnonymousGuestI cover the South Florida bubble in my blog. So, I was particularly interested in the couple that was having difficulty selling their home in Plantation, FL (just outside of Ft. Lauderdale).
I posted the following thread to my blog that details the profits that couples were due to receive (they bought their home for $405k in 2003 and were trying to sell it for $749k on the show):

After some of my readers commented, Andrea Bental, the owner that was featured in the show, defended herself in the comments section.
In some ways, I feel sorry for them because their delusion. However, I know the market down here very well. Their house remains WAY over priced.
Since the show, they’ve knocked another $100k off the price tag, but it’s still over priced by $150k.

There is your next bubble…feng shui…oops been there done that. I wonder how long the designer “home staging” will be the rage. That one always makes me think…”only in America”. I bet it practically goes away if it hasn’t already.
