I’m not sure when/if this will be passed but I heard mention of it on NPR last week. There was a story of an elderly couple who rented a home from a dirty landlord. The guy took their money until the sheriff showed up to give them their 30 days notice.
THis couple could not afford moving expenses on their fixed income and had no idea how to find a new home in 30 days. It’s all just sickening, isnt it?
Some basic info about the bill:
H.R. 3915, the “The Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2007” will reform mortgage practices and contains foreclosure protections for renters. In case of foreclosure, any successor who takes over the property will have to honor preexisting leases. Tenants without a lease will have at least 90 days before being required to vacate.
