he could have stayed in a house he loved, his kids would be growing up around family instead of strangers in a foreign country
Strangers become family.
I followed my dad around the world and I wouldn’t trade that for a boring life in one place. I’ve met strangers from around the world.
Sure, I’ve become weird and different than the average person. But I feel that my life is much richer and more interesting.
Go to school, get married to your sweetheart, work hard, buy a house, start a family…. That’s boring, uninspiring stuff that’s been repeated billions of times already.
There has to be more to human existence, IMHO.
Sorry you have such a wierd and different life. Strangers can become friends but never family. They dont drop everything in their lives to save yours 3 times like I did for my mother. They dont drop everything in lives to help you care for your premature infant when you are a clueless 1st time father while your wife is in the hospital for 2 weeks struggling to survive like my sister (who I dont even get along with all that well) did for me.While I have done the “Go to school, get married to your sweetheart, work hard, buy a house, start a family….” routine my life has hardly been boring or uninspirational. Sorry that you havent figured that out.

Yea, the key is to get the existence that YOU want.

Yeah, but how would you know what you really want if your experiences are limited?
If you always lived in the Midwest, you likely would never know to order Pad Thai or Sushi at the restaurant. Ok, you might try it at Cheesecake Factory on a trip to Vegas, but that’s about it.
If you get married to your high-school sweetheart out of college, maybe you’ve limited your potential and experiences.
What makes humans special is that we always wonder what’s on the other side. That’s what the relentless pursuit of discovery is all about.
