We haven’t heard Alan Gin talk much lately. As I recall he was a real estate bull. I bet he would say he didn’t the the foreclosures coming. So much for the plateau he was predicting.
University of San Diego economist Alan Gin said weak loan-underwriting standards are a major reason for the spike in foreclosures. Many adjustable mortgages issued in recent years required little or no down payment, making homeowners more likely to walk away when the going got tough.
“It just made it easy for people to give up,” Gin said.
I’m not convinced that the poster using Alan Gin’s name was actually Alan Gin. It could have been anyone who was a defender of Alan Gin who didn’t like what was being said and registered using his name.

Time to revive this post. I was reading Ben’s blog and came across this quote. “Alan Gin, an economist at the University of San Diego, said high housing prices make it harder for companies to attract employees.”
Wow, that was kind of interesting. Now I know its a bit of a tangent to his opinions in this thread, but its only taken him two years or so to start changing his tune(Maybe). Its not like I follow all the things he says, but he sure was bullish a long way into the downturn.
