No, the police got a raise in 2004. http://www.voiceofsandiego.org/this_just_in/article_c86350e0-f8a8-5156-8654-2cd99324bc7f.html
Thank you. I stand corrected. The cops went in to negotiate a raise while they were fighting the whole pension deal and from what I understood, they got part of the raise in 2004 and the next trigger would be in 2007.
But yes, you are right. There is no money for raises for anyone right now and that should include the Mayor and City Council.
Meanwhile, PB got another water main break today. Streets are closed over by Fanuel while they deal w/that mess. Job well done. Let’s give the Mayor a raise.

Everyone’s ire is understandable, but, with the city economy as bad as it is, last thing we need is incompetent leadership. And that’s what we’ll get if we try to squeeze their salaries. I’m sure that Sanders has enough connections that he can quit his job any day and jump directly into a higher management position of some private company, on a 200k+ salary.
The Mayor is probably going to get a hefty pension from the City when he retired as Chief of Police and now a pension for being the Mayor. As was mentioned earlier, sure you can go out in the private sector and make more money, but getting a pension is the incentive.
Edit: The water main break is on Garnet/Fanuel and another one on Hornblend. They have 100 breaks a year, according to the City Water Dept.

February 4, 2010 at 5:22 PM #509212meadandaleParticipant

With the unemployment rate over %12 in Klownifornia, exactly where in the private sector are these people highly sought after?
The unemployment rate is over 12% for people without college degrees. December ’09 (nationwide) unemployment rate for people with bachelors’ degrees was 4.7%.
