“At current salary levels, all well-qualified candidates must either have independent sources of income, or be willing to live on an income far below what their skills and experience would likely command in the market place”[/quote]With the unemployment rate over %12 in Klownifornia, exactly where in the private sector are these people highly sought after?
Oh, and considering that they get lifetime pensions with medical, even for serving part of a term, they don’t deserve anything close to private sector salaries.
Even after getting convicted for his role in the pension scandal, Michael Zucchet is getting a taxpayer funded pension payment…for life.

February 4, 2010 at 10:37 AM #508882jParticipantFact check, police got a raise in 2007. http://legacy.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20070411/news_1m11pay.html
Most of that was taken back, but that is because there is NO money.
The fools in office do not deserve a raise, but I think the panel is hopping to get qualified candidates to run in the future.
40% of city firefighters make more than the mayor.

I did say they got a raise eventually. The last time before that when they got a raise was like before 2000. I want to say like in the 1990’s sometime. That’s when there was negotiation and the City said in lieu of raise, they’d put more money in the pension, which they didn’t do.
So in the end, that equates to the last time they got a raise was before the pension deal, which means no raise until 2007 when they got 9%, which may seem like a lot, but hardly makes up for all the years they didn’t get a raise while they were tricked into thinking the extra money was going into the pension. They got screwed.
I know there’s always the issue about firefighters and/or police and how much they make, but so much of that is years in service and overtime. Seriously, those guys make their job their life and career and many times their lives even get cut short. So the pension for life is sometimes a shorter one.
