Yes scaredy, I think the new hires will get a different retirement, some kind of tiered system and probably have to pay more into their retirement. That being said, the prison guard unions are very strong. Unless we send 1/3 of the prisoners to a cheaper State or farm them out to another country and/ or some new kind of genetic manipulation cures all the addicts, we will have to deal with the outrageous costs of incarceration. Because of recent crimes, you can expect judges to be tough on crime and for certain sentences to get longer. Let’s hope Brian is correct about the economic boom. I think econprof’s investments in Arizona will also be a good long term investment. He can live here when Arizona is too hot and there when San Diego is too cold. The best of both worlds.

March 6, 2010 at 9:31 PM #522038danielwisParticipant
Interesting you should mention New York City as an example of a basket case turning itself around. The major factor was one Mayor Guliani, who brought fiscal soundness and a tough-on-crime regime to city government, largely maintained by the current Republican mayor.
I believe you just hijacked your own thread.
Congratulations.

That’s why I wasn’t shy about adding some comments in the same vein.
EconProf’s post is however consistent with his political beliefs. That’s more that can be said for other posters who wag their fingers at government intervention, but when housing is concerned, government intervention works. So no worries, you can buy a house; everything will be fine.
I don’t believe that Prof Piggington (Rich Toscano) and EconProf are one and the same.
