Your point about losing faith in humanity is poignant, but off base. Only in societies where social status is placed on material wealth do we have this kind of behavior. In rural tribal communities like those in the south American rain forests and in the Western Pacific, this is a far rarer issue. They haven’t lost touch with what makes their lives worthwhile, whereas it appears we have.
