………..what year was it they began calling programers engineers? Who asked them to do that? Why? I’ve heard of janitors asking to be called sanitation engineers…they aren’t paid that well either. Not that I would equate the two…clearly programmers require more intelligence and education.
[/quote]Being a programmer myself, it is hard not to defend the concept that progamming is some easy work and engineers are more important/smarter than programmers.
If that is true, then I guess there is no engineer at all in Microsoft and Googles. And the last 15 years of internet and www are not done by “engineers” either.
If you are not in IT/Engineer field, better not to comment on things you don’t know. If the concept is too new to you, maybe you should have watched some TV before you posted, Grandpa.August 12, 2008 at 12:04 AM #256109pepsi

ParticipantI would like to express that this has been one of the most entertaining threads of the month.
The fixation on the payscale of engineers says a lot about what most of these readers do.
Maybe I missed my calling.
Still, the social sciences seem to have given me a lot of good tools in my career.
Random.
While I see some funniness in LJP’s original post, I think he has a point. Not that I fully buy it. Just that it is compelling. Can someone comment on topic for the thread please?

ParticipantWhere I work, your average engineer probably makes just under $100k. The senior positions are pushing around $100-115k, with a few high end people in the $130k range.
Even if it’s not at the level the OP was stating, that’s still a very nice income especially for a working couple.
As SDR said, a lot of people don’t realize how much money is out there. I’m still blown away by some of the war chests people I know are throwing around, and some at such young ages. A lot of people are beyond broke, or barely getting by but there are also a lot of people out there with massive amounts of cash.
